Peristaltic pumps' simple, glandless, "straight through" construction, without valves, vanes or impellers, has clear advantages in handling viscous sludges which may contain rags or other solids which cause blockages. Their ability to impart minimal shear, combined with their high levels of volumetric accuracy when handling additives such as polyelectrolyte, is important for efficient flocculation and additive consumption.

Waste water

Installing Watson-Marlow pumps can cut operating costs for feeding primary or thickened sludge to digesters or filter presses, and in primary tank auto-desludging.

To complete primary auto-desludging after digester treatment, the sludge goes to secondary storage tanks, where low-pressure peristaltic pumps dose polyelectrolytes before dewatering.
